CHARACTER INFO

Character: Momo Ayase
Canon: Dandadan (manga, early doll arc)
Age: 17

Background Information: Character wiki entry.

Personality:

» Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
When it comes to first impressions, Momo typically makes a fantastic one. She is cute, well-dressed, intelligent, cheerful, confident, and charismatic. She has no difficulties striking up a conversation with strangers—or in some cases even adversaries—or making friends. Momo is the kind of person who is easy to both like and get along with, which really comes as no surprise. Not only does she bring life and energy to a conversation, but she enjoys spending her time among other other people.

Most particularly her two best friends, Miko and Muko, who serve as her biggest supporters and most relentless bullies (affectionately).

Almost honest to a fault, Momo is exactly as she presents herself. If anything, she's entirely more transparent than she would ideally prefer to be. Her emotions show easily and immediately on her face and she's prone to quick knee-jerk reactions whether they're justified or not. She doesn't tend to think it through, reacting first and foremost.

Sometimes it leads her to doing things she regrets such as saying cruel things without thinking or unfairly misjudging someone.

Despite that, she is always quick to try to apologise and make amends for her mistakes. She doesn't like to hurt others and especially doesn't like to wrong them. Momo prefers to choose kindness where she can, including when dealing with once-human youkai who have been warped beyond recognition by their tragedy and regrets.

Her grandmother raised her to be a kind child.

» What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
As a highschool student who more or less fell into the greater plot by happenstance, Momo is primarily driven by her desire to protect others. In the beginning, it had just been the people most important to her but as the alien and youkai threat worsen over time, the scope has shifted to humanity as a whole.

They're not an enemy that most people can fight or can even see. As someone who is capable of seeing them and fighting them on their level, Momo has taken it upon herself to respond whenever something happens. She has a strong sense of responsibility about it, putting her all into fighting to keep others safe.

It's the main time when her pride isn't an obstacle, pushing down her normally strong emotions in favour of improving herself. She doesn't hesitate to listen to and consider advice or follow possibly insane training regimens. She won't balk at putting in the work, not when it means she can keep people safe with her abilities. If she has to work her fingers until they bleed, then she will.

Momo doesn't like to back down.

» What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
While Momo would prefer to say that she is flawless and above reproach, the reality is something different. Not only is she is a teenage girl in 21st century Japan raised by her single grandmother—meaning there are already plenty of flaws baked in from her youth and inexperience—but her sense of duty towards others tends to override both common sense and self-preservation. It often makes her reckless and stupid, relying more on luck than logic to carry her through.

Momo will throw herself into danger without a second thought. That's a lot of her problem too. She tends to act too quickly, not giving much thought to the potential consequences she might face. It's the main reason she can't hold down a part-time job for long; she tends to get herself fired after standing up to bosses for employee mistreatment. She'd rather stand up to a bully than keep cashing a steady paycheck.

But that's also who she is—someone who doesn't hesitate to stand up for others. And for what she believes to be right.

Unfortunately, Momo can also be overly confident in herself, thinking herself to be all powerful and invincible. She's clever and tactical-minded enough to figure out a way out of most situations, making it hurt all the more when she isn't successful. She can forget just how little she knows about the new (spiritual) world she's entered, usually leading to her getting abruptly humbled.

Still, she always picks herself back up to keep trying.

» Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
🟢 Something of a Ken Takakura fanatic. Hearing his name or one of his catchphrases is enough to make her melt. She's forcefully renamed her schoolmate and friend, Ken, to "Okarun" as a result.

🟢 Much of her personal ideology and tastes heavily reflect the fact she was raised by an old woman, including her love of old movies and aversion of buying a cellphone.

🟢 Momo and her friends are gyaru.

Abilities & Inventory:
(Abilities)
🟢 Natural Toughness
As a result of being raised by a powerful spirit medium, Momo has trained her body underneath her grandmother's instruction since she was young for both strong mind and body. She's strong and resilient enough to withstand attacks from supernatural or otherworldly beings for a respectable amount of time.

🟢 Martial Arts
Again, Granny knows what lessons to teach. Momo is capable of hand to hand combat and has a kick like a steel horse.

🟢 Spiritual Power
Naturally blessed with spiritual powers (that were subsequently unlocked & activated after an alien abduction), Momo is capable of a wide array of spiritual abilities. She is able to see auras, create spiritual hands that can touch both material and immaterial objects, commune with memories, and give power to objects by naming them.

🟢 Inventory
- fashionable clothes & large bag
- make-up, lotion, lip balm, and other small items typically in a teenage girl's bags.
- choker necklace

ARMADA SELECTION

Paladin. While Momo could easily slot into either armada, Paladins would likely be a better fit for her and her unrelenting sense of justice. She might do things her own way, but her heart is in the right place.
